Industry X – Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Engineer


Job Overview: 

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Engineer to join our helicopter design team. The EMC Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that the helicopter design meets all electromagnetic compatibility requirements and regulations. The role involves conducting comprehensive EMC assessments, identifying potential electromagnetic interference (EMI) sources, and recommending effective mitigation measures. The EMC Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate EMC design principles into the overall helicopter design process. 


  • Conduct electromagnetic compatibility assessments for helicopter systems, components, and subsystems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. 
  • Identify potential electromagnetic interference sources and evaluate their impact on communication systems, navigation equipment, avionics, and other critical systems. 
  • Develop and implement EMC test plans, procedures, and protocols to validate the effectiveness of mitigation measures and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. 
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams (electrical, mechanical, avionics, etc.) to integrate EMC design principles throughout the helicopter development process. 
  • Perform EMC analyses using simulation and modeling tools to predict potential issues and propose design modifications. 
  • Investigate and troubleshoot EMC-related issues during prototype testing and flight trials, providing sound technical recommendations for corrective actions. 
  • Keep abreast of the latest industry trends, regulations, and best practices related to electromagnetic compatibility and ensure compliance with applicable standards. 
  • Provide technical guidance and support to engineering teams on EMC-related matters, ensuring that design decisions align with EMC requirements. 
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and certification organizations, to ensure compliance with relevant EMC standards. 


  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred. 
  • Proven experience as an EMC Engineer within the aviation or aerospace industry, with specific experience in helicopter design preferred. 
  • Solid understanding of electromagnetic theory, EMC standards (e.g., RTCA/DO-160, MIL-STD-461), and relevant regulatory requirements. 
  • Proficiency in using EMC analysis and simulation software tools. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to contribute effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders. 
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills. 
  • Knowledge of aircraft systems, avionics, and helicopter design principles is advantageous. 
  • Ability to acquire or hold appropriate security clearances if required.
